Hydrometallurgical Plant No. 2 (HMP-2) is the leading hydrometallurgical enterprise within JSC NMMC. The plant is based in Zarafshan, Navoi region, and processes gold-bearing ore from the Muruntau deposit — from grinding through to high-purity cast gold.
On 21 July 1969 HMP-2 poured its first gold bar, weighing 11 kg 820 g. From that day Zarafshan became a central point in Uzbekistan’s gold industry. Today the 999.9 fineness mark on the plant’s bars is a recognised brand of the country on the global precious-metals market.
The production chain
The HMP-2 process includes ore reception, grinding and concentration, hydrometallurgical recovery, refining steps and casting. Each stage runs under laboratory control and industrial-safety requirements. The finished product is cast gold of specified fineness.
The plant is part of JSC NMMC’s integrated production system. Mine, transport, energy and metallurgy form one flow. HMP-2 is therefore not a stand-alone shop, but the closing link in the combinat’s gold circuit.
People and the city
The HMP-2 workforce includes engineers, technologists, operators, laboratory staff and support services. The city of Zarafshan grew around the plant and remains tied to it through vocational training and social infrastructure.
Professional training, occupational safety and shift discipline define plant culture. New specialists learn the chain under experienced mentors.
